2012 Indoor Youth Track & Field Clinic & Meet

Coaches will be presenting techniques for starting, sprinting, hurdling, middle distance and distance running, long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault and shot put. Participants will be provided with opportunities to learn by doing at this clinic and should come dressed ready to run, jump and throw. Track spikes (no longer than 1/4 inch) may be worn but are not required for the running and jumping events.

2011 USA National Champion Triple Jumper Amanda Smock (former Melrose HS and NDSU athlete) will be teaching the long and triple jumps. Team USA Minnesota runner Emily Brown (former All-American for the University of Minnesota) will be leading the middle distance and distance training. Amie Fillmore (former All-American for St. Olaf College) will be presenter for pole vault. Tim White, former throws coach at Mounds View High School, Chris Dallager, head coach at Hill-Murray High School, and other area coaches plan to present.

Following the presentation and practice, a brief meet will be held. All events must be completed prior to 5:00 PM. Running events will include the 55m, 55m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 600m, 1000m and 1600m. A medley relay will be held if time allows. Shot put, long jump and triple jump will be contested with each athlete being permitted three jumps or throws.

Pole vault and high jump will remain open practice and not be contested events. Athletes wishing to participate in pole vault will need to supply their own poles.

Cost: $20 (2012 USATF members pay only $10 for the clinic; 2012 USATF memberships may be purchased at the door or in advance by visiting www.usatf.org).

Eligibility: Athletes from 5-18 years of age are invited to attend the inaugural USATF Minnesota Indoor Youth Track & Field Clinic. It is not required that participants have a 2012 USATF membership but a $10 discount is provided to 2012 USATF members.
